Rod Carew and GAPHitter are Big Hit at NYBC

Rod Carew Baseball was an official sponsor of the recent 2010 National Youth Baseball Championships (NYBC). The championships were held August 26-29 at Gameday Baseball’s First Tennessee Fields in Memphis, TN.
The four-day tournament was the effort of the Major Youth Baseball Alliance, LLC. The MYBA is comprised of eight major youth organizations, including AABC (American Amateur Baseball Congress), AAU (Amateur Athletic Union of the United States), Babe Ruth Baseball, Dixie Youth Baseball, NABF (National Amateur Baseball Federation), Pony Baseball, Super Series Baseball of America, and USSA (United States Specialty Sports Association.
Baseball legend Rod Carew, Chairman of Rod Carew Baseball (RCB) commented, “We’re very pleased to be working with the Major Youth Baseball Alliance and be a sponsor the Championships. MYBA’s commitment to America’s youth and the game of baseball is a credit to each organization. Our RCB team looks forward to working with the MYBA and developing a long term partnership, which I, personally, will be very active.”
Carew, a first-ballet National Baseball Hall of Fame legend and 7-time AL Batting Champion, threw out the first pitch of the 12-under championship game, which was broadcast live on the MLB Network. Carew made an appearance in the broadcast booth, mingled with the young players, and signed autographs for over an hour prior to the game.
In addition to Carew’s appearance, his company, Rod Carew Baseball, was a big “hit” at the NYCB, as it showcased its flagship product, the GAPHitter. The GAPHitter was tested by hundreds of players and fans at the tournament. It also gained rave reviews from MYBA executives. The company believes the GAPHitter will revolutionize t-ball by providing children the fun and excitement of hitting a moving ball.
Richard Neely, member of the Major Youth Baseball Alliance Board of Directors and president of the American Amateur Baseball Congress stated, “We were honored to have Rod Carew participate at the National Youth Baseball Championships and throw out the first pitch of the finals. Rod is not only one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball; he’s also a great ambassador of the game. To have his company, Rod Carew Baseball, actively support the NYBC and youth baseball, in general, is exciting.”
The tournament crowned national champions Lamorinda Monarchs (AAU) in the 12-under and DQ Crushers (NABF) in the 10-under divisions. Future plans call for the tournament to include as many as eight different age groups.
“The efforts of MYBA fit perfectly with the mission of RCB, as we strive to be the premier company teaching the art and science of hitting and working closely with youth baseball,” said Gil Vieira, president of Rod Carew Baseball. “Our partnership with all eight organizations in the Alliance will enable us to introduce the GAPHitter to millions of young players and multiple age groups.”
